The substitute for Flower Food

When you buy flowers in the store they give you a little packet of flower food.   If you do not have the food here are a few recipes you can use to keep your flower water clean and fresh.  It is recommended you change the water and re cut the stems every other day.  Also use warm water.  The temperature of a baby’s bath is perfect.

The easiest recipe is:  1/4 teaspoon chlorine bleach, 1/4 teaspoon sugar per quart of water.

Valentines Day Flowers because it is good to give!

red roses in cubeWhy give the ones you most care about flowers this Valentine’s Day?…Give because it will make YOUR life better.  With 25 years of experience arranging and delivering flowers, this flower lover concludes giving flowers is far better than receiving them.   Be sure you get your money’s worth when you hand your floral gift to your beloved.  Keep your eyes on their face. If you are lucky enough to have flowers delivered to you, immediately pick up the phone and call to thank the sender. As Mastercard says….Priceless!  Happy Valentine’s Day

On Creativity

Everything in this piece is from the yard around my mother’s house.

In any design work, the project starts with a vision.  First the creator has to determine the parameters of what they want to create.  The size, the color, the contents, the purpose.  Sometimes the creator is working with materials they have and other times the materials will be procured.  Most important for the designer is to have the belief and knowledge within themselves that EVERYTHING is possible within the parameters they set down.  Also helpful is to have practiced daily and learned from all past experiences.  The failures can contribute greatly here to…so include them as positive as you move forward and you will be amazed by what you can CREATE!

Bouts and Corsages

Wearing personal body flowers is a long tradition.  Me, I LOVE making them.  Others share they do not care to make boutonniere and corsages as they require patience and much manual dexterity and practice.  I say, bring them on and I will sit for days working on them.  I see them very much like Jewelry, to be pinned on in just the right place to add just the perfect touch.bouts and corsages

Giving Thanks

thanksgiving long and low with gourdThanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year.  I love making all the fall color centerpieces and working with the gourds and wheat and cinnamon sticks.  Thank you for being in my circle and in that spirit I share this floral arrangement with you.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Falling back into Fall

The Fall is moving along and now that we have pushed the clocks back and the days are shorter and we are headed towards Thanksgiving and shorter days we know winter and the Christmas and Chanukah and Kwaanza holidays are not far behind.  Time to bundle up and enjoy family and friends and the time for giving and sharing and appreciating all we have.  I know I do!fall round
